By now you’ve probably heard Oliver Anthony’s totally organic viral sensation song Rich Men North of Richmond. Maybe you’re even already sick of the discourse around it. Perhaps you might have even found yourself liking or enjoying it because of the way it ostensibly is about the rich exploiting the working class, or the feeling of hopelessness and alienation so many people in our society are experiencing right now. But considering the very obviously astroturfed nature of the song and the very harmful, reductive, reactionary class politics it espouses, we thought it was worth a discussion.
